Gold Coasts St Anna hosts high tea event

first_imgLast month the community of St Anna on the Gold Coast hosted its sixth high tea event to raise money for its welfare fund.Held at the Hellenic Function Centre on Saturday 20 August, there were 120 people in attendance from across the state.Keen to aid the humanitarian cause, guests also enjoyed a presentation by guest speaker Dr John Zakos.The computer scientist and technology entrepreneur spoke on ‘The Power of Imagination: How Intelligent Machines are Changing our Lives Forever’, captivating his audience with an insight into what technology and artificial intelligence have in store for the future. Raised on the Gold Coast, Dr Zakos’ family continue to be active members of the St Anna community and were in attendance on the day, including his mother, president of the Ladies Auxiliary of St Anna, Thalia Zakos.Among those attending on the day were the Honorary Consul of Greece in Queensland, Jim Raptis; president of the Gold Coast Greek Community Sandra Voukelatos; Community benefactors Betty Vaggelas and Marika Palyaris; and festival sponsors George and Tsambica Manettas. The fun, insightful afternoon raised a total of $4,000, which will be used by the Ladies Auxiliary of St Anna to help the needy and families in distress.
