Vancouver mom accused of child abuse

first_imgA Vancouver mother who’s accused of being intoxicated and dropping her two toddlers on the ground, fracturing one child’s skull, appeared Tuesday in Clark County Superior Court.Jasmin C. Crump, 34, appeared on suspicion of first-degree assault of a child, reckless endangerment and three counts of third-degree assault, court records show.Shortly before 6 p.m. Monday, Vancouver police responded for a welfare check in the area of Northeast 150th Avenue and Northeast 149th Court, where they found a woman, later identified as Crump, lying on the ground with three small, crying children, according to an affidavit of probable cause.Two witnesses said they had tried to help Crump and her children after hearing them crying. When asked if she needed help for her children, Crump said, “What children?” Crump was swearing and appeared to be “out of it,” the affidavit states.At one point, she stood, holding a 17-month-old child and dropped the child on the grass. The witnesses said another child, also 17 months old, walked out into the street. They picked him up and gave him back to Crump, who appeared to be upset by this, the witnesses said. Crump then picked up the toddler and dropped him on his head on the sidewalk. The boy began crying, according to court documents.Police arrived about a minute later and were flagged down by the witnesses.When the officer approached Crump, she attempted to stand but began staggering and sat back down. Officer Janell Cusick said she could smell the odor of alcohol coming from Crump, and her eyes were red and watery, court records state.last_img read more
